Claim Details
Location: Prescott, Arizona
Size: 15.32 Acres
Type: Unpatented Lode Claim on Prescott National Forest Land

Historical Context:
The Royal Sovereign #2 is located in Arizona’s Groom Creek Mining District, one of the state’s earliest hard rock gold-producing regions. Gold was first discovered in the area in the early 1860s, and by the 1880s, the district hosted dozens of active lode mines targeting quartz veins. This claim sits adjacent to the historic Empire Mine and is believed to have once been known as the Mirabile—an early lode claim noted in 1881 for its 85-foot shaft and rich free-milling gold ore. Trenching, dig sites, and waste rock dumps on the ground today reflect that early activity.

Gold Potential:
The claim features a primary quartz vein system running across the ridge, with three additional dig sites along a nearby parallel vein. The veins are currently buried and will require surface work to expose. We collected a sample from ore scattered along the trench lines and from a small pile left by earlier miners. The sample was submitted to a professional assay lab and returned values of 0.61 ounces of gold per ton and 2.45 ounces of silver per ton. The amount of waste rock and the focused trenching suggest targeted historical efforts, though the original tunnels have since collapsed. The steep upper terrain provides an ideal setup for a tramline to move material to the lower road-accessible areas.

Terrain and Access:
There is easy vehicle access to the main dig via a well-maintained dirt road, passable by most cars. The upper trenching and dig sites require a steep hike. An older mining road reaches the top of the ridge from another direction but crosses private land and would require permission to use.

Nearby Amenities:
Prescott: A short drive from the claim, with fuel, hardware, groceries, and lodging available.
Camping: Dispersed camping is allowed throughout the Prescott National Forest, with several suitable spots near the claim for RVs or tents.
